About this funding program
The AWE Tech Innovation Challenge is a flagship investment initiative spearheaded by AWE Funds, an impact investment firm dedicated to fostering innovation. This program is powerfully supported by the Evergreen Philanthropic Fund (EPF), the Bayer Foundation, and the AWE Foundation, bringing together a robust coalition of financial and strategic partners. Its core mission is to back technology-driven startups that are building scalable, impact-focused solutions. The program specifically targets ventures addressing critical needs within underserved and climate-vulnerable communities throughout India, striving to create a tangible difference in societal well-being and environmental resilience. We seek to identify and empower founders who leverage cutting-edge technology to solve pressing challenges in sectors such as health, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture.
This challenge is designed as an equity investment program, providing not just capital but also a comprehensive support ecosystem. AWE Funds aims to deploy long-term patient equity capital, enabling startups to focus on sustainable growth and deep impact rather than short-term returns. Beyond funding, the selected companies benefit from strategic access to investors, facilitating further fundraising rounds, and introductions to key industry partners. This robust support structure, coupled with expert mentorship and networking opportunities, is crucial for helping startups navigate the complexities of scaling their innovative solutions and expanding their reach to the communities that need them most. The program underscores a commitment to fostering enterprises that can generate significant positive social and environmental outcomes alongside financial returns.

Timelines & Process
Selection Process
The AWE Tech Innovation Challenge employs a rigorous, multi-stage selection process designed to identify high-potential, impact-driven technology startups. Initially, all submitted applications undergo a thorough review and scoring by the AWE investment team, evaluating criteria such as innovation, market potential, team strength, and the potential for measurable social and environmental impact. Following this initial screening, the Top 20 startups are invited to pitch their solutions to the AWE Leadership team, providing an opportunity for direct engagement and assessment of strategic alignment. This is followed by a round where the Top 10 startups present to a panel of seasoned industry experts, who provide insights and further evaluate the technical and commercial viability of the solutions. Finally, the Top 5 startups advance to present before the Investment Committee, which comprises key decision-makers from AWE Funds and its supporting partners. The Committee makes the final investment decisions based on comprehensive due diligence and strategic fit. This structured process ensures that only the most promising ventures with the highest potential for scalable impact receive funding and support.
