Pick the right programme first

IKP is not one funnel — it runs several separate programmes, each for a different kind of founder:

• Deep, lab-dependent science with a private limited company already incorporated: look at Genesis.
• A working MedTech or HealthTech prototype, ready to build toward regulatory approval and manufacturing: look at ARK.
• An early-stage biotech idea needing a national grant: apply through the Biotechnology Ignition Grant during its twice-yearly window.
• A later-stage agri-tech product ready to be field-tested: look at the Agri Grand Challenge.
• An idea-stage or validation-stage healthcare innovation: look at BFI BIOME's Fellowship or Kickstarter track.
• You need lab space and mentorship as a resident, not a grant: apply to the Life Sciences Incubator.

How applications work

• Genesis applications go through IKP's own Athena application portal and ask for a short slide deck, not a full business plan.
• The Biotechnology Ignition Grant opens twice a year, from 1 January and 1 July, for a 45-day window each time.
• ARK, the Agri Grand Challenge and BFI BIOME are best reached by writing to their programme inbox directly, since each runs on its own registration process and timeline.

How selection works

• Genesis reviews applications internally for scientific novelty, technical readiness, IP potential and team quality, then runs scientific and regulatory deep dives and team interviews before signing agreements.
• ARK looks for a working proof of concept, not an idea — teams still validating a concept are better suited to Genesis or the Life Sciences Incubator first.
• The Agri Grand Challenge runs in two stages: a first round funds field testing for a shortlist of technologies, and only the strongest performers are funded again for larger-scale testing.

What reviewers look for

• Genesis: lab-dependent, technically novel science with a credible route to a regulatory pathway (CDSCO, ICMR or an equivalent global route) and to investor interest.
• ARK: a proof of concept that is genuinely ready for manufacturing and regulatory work, not a concept still being tested.
• Eligibility on paper matters. Genesis is explicit that one-person companies and LLPs are not eligible — check the company structure required before applying.

IKP Knowledge Park is a science park and incubator on a 200-acre campus in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, founded in 1999. It is run by IKP Knowledge Park, the operating arm of the non-profit IKP Trust, alongside a related early-stage venture fund manager, IKP Ventures. It also has a presence in Bengaluru through IKP EDEN, a separate hardware and deep-tech incubator in Koramangala with its own leadership, which is listed as its own provider on this site.

How programmes work

IKP does not run one standard incubation ladder. Instead it runs several distinct programmes side by side, each with its own focus, funder and terms. Genesis is a 12-month venture-building programme for deep-science startups working at an early stage of technical readiness in biotherapeutics, industrial biotech, diagnostics, or healthtech and AI; it takes an equity stake and applications go through IKP's own Athena application portal. ARK is a separate venture-building programme only for MedTech and HealthTech startups that already have a working proof of concept, and it runs partly out of Bengaluru, with a residential opening phase there before the team returns to build with IKP over a year. IKP is also an implementation partner (one of eight nationally) for the Biotechnology Ignition Grant, BIRAC's flagship early-stage biotech grant scheme, which opens twice a year for a 45-day window. The Agri Grand Challenge, run with BIRAC, is a two-stage programme for later-stage agri-tech startups: the first stage funds field testing for a shortlist of technologies, and the strongest performers move to a second stage of testing across different regions and crops. BFI BIOME, run jointly with Blockchain For Impact, offers a Fellowship track for idea-stage biomedical and medtech innovators and a Kickstarter track for startups that need to validate or pilot a healthcare technology, each cycle running six to eight months.

Who can apply

Most of what IKP runs is aimed at life sciences, biotech, healthtech, medtech and agri-tech founders, reflecting its history as a life sciences park. Genesis is restricted to Indian private limited companies with lab-dependent science; sole proprietorships, one-person companies and LLPs are not eligible. ARK is restricted to MedTech and HealthTech ventures with a working prototype, not idea-stage teams, and explicitly excludes software and consumer-tech companies. The Life Sciences Incubator, IKP's standing resident programme on the Hyderabad campus, is open more broadly to life sciences startups, innovators, SMEs and researchers, and currently has about a dozen resident teams.

Facilities

The Hyderabad campus centres on wet-lab space: incubatees in the Life Sciences Incubator get access to a 20,000 sq ft modular wet lab. Alongside it sits A-Labs, an analytical testing facility that has been NABL-accredited since it was set up in 2012, with instruments including a 400 MHz NMR, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, ICP-MS and HPLC, open to startups, SMEs, academic researchers and IKP's own incubatees.

Services

Beyond lab space, IKP runs two standing service platforms. PRIME, its technology transfer and IP office, is backed by the World Bank, the National Biopharma Mission, BIRAC and the Government of India, and helps researchers and startups across five states — Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal — with technology valuation, licensing, patent filing and IP portfolio strategy. COMPASS is a compliance service built specifically for medical device and diagnostics startups, walking a company through product safety testing, ISO process certification, and regulatory approval routes in India, Europe and the US over a structured six-month engagement.

Scale

Across its history IKP reports supporting more than 1,850 companies and innovation projects, with activity in nine countries and five incubators, and partnerships with 60 large and mid-size companies. Its Life Sciences Incubator alone says it has supported 135 innovators to date. Nationally, the Biotechnology Ignition Grant scheme IKP helps deliver has funded more than 180 startups and produced more than 130 intellectual property filings across all eight of its implementation partners, not IKP alone.

Who runs it

IKP's chairperson is Deepanwita Chattopadhyay, and its Hyderabad operations are led by chief executive Satya Prakash Dash. Its Bengaluru site, IKP EDEN, has its own chief executive, Sridhar Ramanathan. The board includes Sharad Sharma, co-founder of the iSPIRT Foundation, Sundaram Finance's Rajiv C Lochan, and IIT Hyderabad's Uday B. Desai, among others. IKP posts open roles on its own careers page and typically has more than a dozen positions listed at a time.

Locations

The main campus is at Genome Valley, Turkapally, Shamirpet, in Hyderabad's Medchal-Malkajgiri district, pincode 500101. IKP EDEN in Bengaluru is a separately run site in Koramangala, and is listed separately on this site rather than as part of this profile.
